Medicare Prescription Payment Plan

Spread your out-of-pocket drug costs into predictable monthly payments — instead of paying large amounts at the pharmacy.

What is the M3P?

The Medicare Prescription Payment Plan (sometimes called M3P or MPPP) is a voluntary payment option that lets you spread your out-of-pocket prescription drug costs over the plan year in monthly installments. Instead of paying a large copay or coinsurance at the pharmacy, you pay a smoothed monthly amount.

This program does not lower your total costs — it simply changes when you pay them, making your expenses more predictable and manageable.

Who can use it?

Anyone enrolled in a Medicare Part D plan can opt in to the Payment Plan, regardless of income level. It's available through both standalone Part D plans and Medicare Advantage drug plans.

What's new for 2026

If you participated in the Payment Plan in 2025, you are automatically re-enrolled for 2026 unless you choose to opt out. If you switch to a different Part D plan for 2026, you'll need to opt in again with your new plan.

How to opt in

Contact your Part D plan directly to enroll in the Medicare Prescription Payment Plan. You can also find information about the program at Medicare.gov and in your "Medicare & You" handbook.
